How to own a piece by one of the great Danish designers without breaking the bank.

You do not need a fortune to own a piece by one of the twentieth century’s great designers. Arne Jacobsen’s stainless steel for Stelton is a perfect place to start.
Arne Jacobsen (1902–1971) was one of Denmark’s most celebrated architects and designers. Alongside buildings, he designed furniture that is now world famous, including the Egg and Swan chairs, as well as lighting, cutlery and everyday objects, all with the same clean, confident lines.
In the mid-1960s, Peter Holmblad of the Danish company Stelton brought Jacobsen in to design a range of stainless steel tableware, a modern alternative to traditional silver. After about three years of work, partly sketched on napkins over dinner, the result was launched in 1967 as the Cylinda Line: coffee pots, teapots, ice buckets, cocktail shakers and more, all based on a simple cylinder. It won the Danish Design Council’s ID Prize straight after launch, and it is still regarded as a classic of industrial design.
Stainless steel never needs polishing, does not tarnish and suits modern homes, which made Stelton’s designs both practical and stylish. Brushed and polished finishes on simple shapes became a signature of Danish modern design.
Our pair of Stelton stainless steel candle holders by Arne Jacobsen brings that pared-back Danish look to the table, and our carved Scandinavian wooden gonk is a fun reminder that Nordic design also has a playful side.
