They are a Hot Water Jug and a Coffee Pot They are a matched Coffee and Hot Water Service.
In the Victorian era, silversmiths used different coloured rings on purpose so the butler or host could tell the pots apart at a glance.
The pot with the dark ebony ring was traditionally meant for Coffee.
The pot with the light cream ring was meant for Hot Water (used to dilute strong tea or coffee). A a true, original "matched set" because they share the exact same style, pattern, and height.
EPBM (Electroplated Britannia Metal).
The pig (specifically a running pig) combined with a four-digit design number indicates these pots were crafted by the renowned Sheffield silversmiths Shaw & Fisher.
Shaw & Fisher used a distinct pig profile as their registered trade mark on many of their electroplated Britannia metal (EPBM) and silver-plated items.
The Number 1018 is the pattern or catalogue number used by the factory. In the 19th century, factories stamped these unique numbers onto the base so merchants could easily reorder the exact same style or design from the manufacturer.
Production Era: Shaw & Fisher operated heavily out of Norfolk Place in Sheffield, England, during the mid-to-late Victorian era.
This specific hallmark, combined with the handle insulators and the heavy foliate design, narrows the production date of your set down to circa 1880–1895.
Shaw & Fisher was a well-respected, highly productive Sheffield firm. Both have clearly identifiable maker's mark and a matched pattern number (1018)
A fine pair of highly collectible jugs for lovers of antique British silver plate, and a charming addition to any table, display, or vintage home décor.
