This object is a Victorian hand-blown cranberry glass honey pot or lidded preserve jar, crafted in England during the late 19th century. Famous glassmakers like Stevens & Williams were highly renowned for producing this style of art glass.
It is made of cranberry glass (also known as ‘Gold Ruby’ glass), which gets its signature pinkish-red hue from adding gold salts to molten glass. The lower half features a distinctive beehive or ribbed threaded design, matching its purpose as a honey pot. The top lid is crowned with an intricate, hand-applied clear glass floral finial.
It is a classic piece of British art glass dating from the 1870s to 1890s, hand-blown using gold salts mixed into molten glass to achieve the deep ruby-red or pink tone. It typically features a rough, snapped pontil scar or a ground-flat pontil mark on the base.
This vintage cranberry glass lidded jar is designed in a traditional Victorian style with a ribbed body and a clear glass finial. The piece is often described as a trinket pot, sweet jar, or dresser jar. It serves as a decorative storage container for a vanity or as part of a glass collection.
There are some nibbles around the top of the bottom half and under the lid, but these nibbles don’t detract from its appearance.
