Genuine 1938 Clarice Cliff Waterlily planter, Newport Pottery, yellow colourway. Excellent condition, marked underneath.
1 in stock
A rare find in collector’s condition: a Clarice Cliff Lily planter from her Waterlily series of 1938, in the yellow colourway, made at Newport Pottery.
The modelled design is wonderfully tactile, with curved and lightly gathered petals, tiny flower buds nestled on the lily pads, and reed leaves floating on the surface of the water. It dates from the time when Clarice Cliff was art director at Newport Pottery and one of the best-known designers in Britain.
Condition: excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs; minor crazing to the glaze, as expected with age. It has not been cleaned and will benefit from a gentle wash. The photos form part of the condition report.
Mark: stamped “Clarice Cliff, Newport Pottery, England” underneath.
Size: approx. 12cm high; 20 x 15.5cm across the top; base 22 x 17.5cm. Weight about 1.1kg.
